Purpose
The purpose of this meeting is to familiarize parents and players with the guidelines and expectations of Courtside United Volleyball Club, and to provide an overview of your participation in the upcoming season. For our program to be successful – and our experience enjoyable - the mission, values, conduct, and guidelines of the club must be followed and enforced. We desire to surround our club with high-character players, coaches, and families who reflect values such as integrity, service, and leadership. Thank you for your cooperation!
Overview
Upon review of our website and throughout the initial tryout process, you will have noticed two common themes before registering with the club, : Player Development and Character Development
Courtside 360 Philosophy – Beyond Volleyball
In addition to athletic development… “360” programming contains our core principles to a well- rounded athlete (Character, Mindset, Work Ethic), philosophy to complete development (Athletically, Mentally, Socially, Spiritually), and teaches competitive edge. We believe in instilling the resilient mindset of finding joy in the process before realizing the results.
Setting + Instruction + Difference
Positive Coaching Environment. Instruction which develops self-discipline, builds self-confidence, enhances communication, and instills leadership, responsibility, and accountability. Player development is our focus, not win-at-all-cost.
Courtside United Culture
Our teams are a family unified with a purpose bigger than volleyball. We train, compete, and grow as athletes and individuals. Courtside is about complete development - making each person better - so that their influence makes others better. Character first, train and play second, impact always.
The Experience
We strive to raise the bar on what a quality, enjoyable youth sports experience can be for both the players, coaches, and families part of our club, as well as the facility operators and tournament directors we come in contact with.
Reminders
Team Parents: CUVB would like to have 1-2 parents per team assist Head Coaches with team socials and snack arrangements for tournaments. If this is something you’re interested in, please let your Head Coach know.
Practice Attire: Players are required to wear matching Courtside practice shirts at every practice. 2 shirts are provided as part of the uniform package.
Uniform Distribution: Please pick up your uniform before leaving tonight’s meeting.
Media Day: Media Day will take place in the next two weeks. We will send details soon.
Code of Conduct / Commitment
24-Hour Rule: Under no circumstances is a parent/guardian/family member to approach a coach/trainer with a complaint or an evaluation of coaching philosophy during or after practice, or following a match. I will wait 24 hours to communicate any concerns to the head coach.
One Voice Coaching: I will not coach my child from the sidelines during practices and games, realizing that the only voice she should be listening to is her coach; I should not confuse my child by competing with that voice.
Attendance / Communication: Player attendance at practices, team meetings, and tournaments are required unless an excused absence is approved. In the event a player must be absent, parents will ensure coaches are notified as soon as possible. Communication is crucial!
Transportation: For liability and insurance reasons, CUVB coaches, directors and administrators CANNOT provide transportation to or from practice, tournaments or any club event.
Playing Time: Playing time is individually weighted and determined based on the combined evaluation of effort and skill shown in practice, commitment to the program by attendance to practices and tournaments, and by an observation of a player’s attitude (Is the player coachable?). Playing time decisions may also be made simply based on situational match ups. In club volleyball, playing time is not equally distributed.
Player Contributions: In order to meet deadlines associated with ordering uniforms and equipment, registering for tournaments, renting facilities for practices, and paying staff, player contributions must be paid on time. Courtside covers many of these costs upfront. Therefore, your contribution reimburses us. Players must be current on contributions to remain eligible to participate with their team. Thank you for your commitment to ensure your season runs smoothly and without disruption.
Social Media: Players, and parents of players, using social media to voice negative comments or personal attacks on CUVB, its coaching staff, other players, or parents will not be tolerated and may result in the related player being dismissed from the team. Post with integrity!
Courtside Proprietary Brand Assets: CUVB company logos, slogans, and hashtags are not to be used in printed materials or apparel without permission. Please do not print your own club merchandise without approval. Official CUVB apparel and merchandise provided from the Courtside online store is the only Spirit Wear available unless otherwise approved by the club director.
Communication Policy: Communication involving minor participants should be appropriate, professional, and transparent, as with USA Volleyball’s emphasis on player safety. CUVB adheres to the USA Volleyball Electronic Communications Policy requirements: If the player is under the age of 18, any email, social media or similar communication must also copy or include the player’s parents. All electronic communication between adult and player must be for the purpose of communicating information about team activities. All content between adult and player should be readily available to share with the public or families of the adult or player.
Team App: All team communication must take place in the app chat room. There should not be a separate group text. Private Training which takes place outside of team practices is ok to discuss directly with the coach via text communication.
CUVB Texting and Email Policy: Texting between coaches and players under the age of 18 is prohibited unless a parent/guardian, another coach, or the club director is also copied.
Grievance Procedures: Competitive team athletics, by its very nature, creates an environment where athletes, parents and/or coaches may not always be in agreement with all decisions made. Most often the concern is related to playing time, position, or role within the team. Athletes are expected to communicate and discuss such issues with their coach before asking a parent/guardian to step in. Coaches are required to provide players with a fair evaluation and growth plan for development, but not to defend their reasoning for decisions being made. Coaches are instructed to not engage in playing time discussions during practice or tournaments. If a coach is approached during such times, they have been instructed to politely decline discussing such matters and advise the parent to set up a meeting.
Parents and athletes are to adhere to the following grievance process:
The athlete meets with the coach to discuss the matter. If the matter is not resolved or the athlete has a reasonable concern about speaking to the coach, please proceed to step two.
The parent meets with the coach to discuss the matter. If the matter is not resolved or the parent has reasonable concern about speaking to the coach, please proceed to step three.
The parent meets with the Head of Coaching. In certain situations, the Head of Coaching may ask either the team’s coach or athlete (or both) to attend the meeting.
All decisions and recommendations by the Head of Coaching and/or the Club Director are final and not subject to appeal. The recommended time for a parent and/or athlete to meet with a coach is immediately after a scheduled practice IF IT HAS BEEN MADE BY APPOINTMENT. Do not blindside a coach after practice or at a tournament.
It is inappropriate for an athlete or a parent to approach other CUVB members about a problem the athlete or a parent is having with a coach, about objections to coaching, or administrative decisions. For the sake of the team and the club as a whole, grievances must be handled via the grievance process outlined above.
CUVB promotes fairness and believes in open communication. All issues and concerns are immediately addressed with the athlete's well-being in mind. We are here to make this season enjoyable as well as a great learning experience for your athlete.
Quitting Policy: We believe that quitting is the LAST option. By committing to this team, you are committing to finish the season. If there are issues you feel cannot be resolved, please follow the above guidelines BEFORE you decide to quit.
If you decide to quit, you MUST notify the Club Director immediately via email. info@courtside360.net
You will be asked to sign a form acknowledging that you are quitting and understand that your fees and dues still apply.
